We're back with another release and some improvements to the platform. We're putting particular focus on communities and communication at the moment, and have a few things lined up on that over the next month or two. Here's the latest on what you can find in Magma…

Artspace Updates

We want Artspaces to be the home for your creative teams and growing communities. So, we've begun working on a series of features to improve them. The first of these includes profiles for Artspaces and join requests.

Artspace profiles

The Artspace profile page makes it easy for you to share what your community is all about. It works in much the same way as your regular profile page and can be customized with some basic formatting and embeds. We have awhole guide on that but if you are new to Artspaces, then you should start here.

Here's an example from the awesome Artspot crew. You can see when the Artspace was made, who owns the space, how many members it has, and how many of them are currently online.

Changes:

  • Added profile pages for Artspaces;

  • Added a button to profile inside Artspace dashboard;

Request to Join Artspaces

Part of giving Artspaces their own profiles is to make them easy to join when sharing the profile link. Your Artspaces now let you choose if people can request to join or not. If you do allow it, a request button appears on your profile page, and you will be alerted about new requests inside your Artspace notifications.

Changes:

  • Added Request to Join settings for Artspaces;

  • Join Requests tab in Artspace settings;

  • Request to Join button on Artspace profiles;

The Future of Artspaces

We have a lot more in store for Artspaces to really level them up for those of you building awesome communities. We're planning to add the following:

  • [UPDATED] Project category panels

  • [NEW] Voice channels and text channels

  • [NEW] Artspace Mature Content Toggles

  • [NEW] Artspace chat permissions

  • [NEW] DMs for private chats

  • [UPDATED] Additional privacy settings to limit DMs

  • [NEW] Blocking profiles

  • [NEW] Public Artspace discoverability

In the lead-up to future updates, we want to provide you all with the opportunity to create your artspaces in advance, for fandoms, interests, or other communities that you are interested in. Should you wish to create a new community before public artspace discoverability goes live, please fill in the form here. We'll review them on a case-by-case basis, but once public listing goes live, your spaces will automatically be made public.

Participants List

We've improved the canvas top bar with a new participants list. Tapping on the joiners' avatars in the top corner now opens a new pop-up with a list of all joiners, making it easy for admins to manage their canvases. You will be able to adjust roles and even block users who may no longer be on the canvas.

There are a few options to explore here, like filtering by role and searching for users by name.

Adblocker update

As you know, we've been exploring ads on the platform as a way to support further development of Magma and the team behind it. We've also got three different ways for you to remove ads through Blaze, a Mags purchase, or bringing new users to Magma. We're now also rolling out an update that affects adblock users.

If you use an ad blocker, you may see a pop-up or splash screen prompting you to disable it for Magma. These include instructions for disabling the most popular ad blockers available.

If you experience any trouble with this, such as the pop-up still appearing after you disable the ad blocker, then please reach out to us at support@magma.com so that we can investigate.

Changes:

  • Disable adblock prompt added

Bug Fixes

As usual, our engineering team is working hard to fix any bugs and issues found on the platform. Thank you to everyone who has reported bugs to us. Here's what we got this time:

  • Fix removing roles from a drawing not saving correctly

  • Fix tool settings not persisting properly

  • Fix crash when thumbnail or reference images had zero dimensions

  • Fix chat permissions not working for public drawings

  • Fix online user presence showing incorrect data in multiboard jams

  • Fix disabled unicorn button colors

  • Fix inconsistent styling on drawing buddies page

As always, let us know what you think — feel free to send us your Feature Requests, reach out to us on Discord or send us a message.
