This week marks the start of a major update to Magma. If you've been a member of our past Q&As, this might not be a surprise, but for those who haven't caught up yet, we're finally ready to unveil our big summer project: the Creator Economy.

This is how we'll be supporting artists, one Mag at a time….

New Feature: Mags

It's been a long while coming, but we're thrilled to announce Mags, a brand new system to support yourself and fellow artists on our Platform.

What are Mags?

Mags are new in-app tokens in Magma, which can be used as a gift to creators, challenge them, or even commission them to make art for you.

The chat box on the canvas is the main place that you’ll be engaging with this feature for now. You’ll see a new Mags amount button at the top of your chat window.

Using Mags, you now can interact with other artists in a variety of different ways. Once you have accumulated enough Mags, you may cash out your Mags for real money via your creator dashboard.

Support your Creators

With Mags, artists on Magma now have the opportunity to earn for their work on the platform. When sending Mags to artists, those on the canvas will see a unique tipping message, designed to catch the eye of others on the platform.

By default, three tipping options have been selected for you on Magma for your canvas participants to show their appreciation. Feel free to pick different options from your default set! When selected, those who want to tip you will see your selected options as the default options they can tip you with.

Should the default rewards not be to your fancy, feel free to design your own rewards as well!

Launching the Creator Economy isn’t just a feature milestone - it’s a big step toward something everyone in Magma believes deeply in: supporting real human creativity and building tools that elevate artist livelihoods.

We think Magma has a unique chance to prove that the act of creating together — the energy, the community, the stories — is just as important (if not more) than the final image. That’s something generative AI tools often ignore, and something we want to celebrate and protect in the current digital age.

We hope you have a good time exploring the possibilities on Magma. Here's to you, fellow artist!

Other updates…

Alongside this, we're also releasing other QOL updates and important bug fixes!

  • Fixed bug with posting selections to gallery requiring email verification;

  • Made the hand tool the default for middle mouse button;

  • Fixed a pressure opacity bug causing white blocks and glitching;

  • Added comment tool support for Multiboard (beta);

  • various other Multiboard bugs got fixed.

Looking for artists….

Finally, before we leave, we're announcing that we're partnering with Ntropy to help them find a Concept Artist/Brand Illustrator!

Ntropy is on the lookout for a Concept Artist/Brand Illustrator to collaborate on their next-generation Web3 platform. Magma will be hosting a live recruitment event via an art jam on Monday to Tuesday, July 28th to July 29th, from 3:00 pm - 3:00 am CEST.

For more details, show up during the duration! The jam will be featured when the event is live, so feel free to pop by at any time. They're looking for someone above 20 years old, and having a degree in Visual Arts, Illustration, or Animation would be advantageous. If you fit the criteria, we recommend giving it a go!

As always, feel free to send us your Feature Requests in Magma to let us know. If you have any questions, reach out to us on Discord or send us a message.
