Welcome to another Magma release! Keep reading to learn about some important Art Jam updates, expanded language support, and more. You’ll also have the chance to sign up as a beta tester and get early access to one of our exciting upcoming features!

Adding Korean translations

We’ve now translated Magma to Korean! If you speak Korean and have feedback on our translations, please get in touch with us. We’re always looking to improve and give all of our users a great experience on our platform.

Promoting Art Jams

Because Art Jams are public canvases and open for any artists to join, all artwork created on jams will now be treated as public. This means that Magma may post any Art Jam canvases on social media and use them for promotional purposes, giving your work more visibility across our channels.

We’ve updated our Art Jams Terms of Use to reflect this change — our goal is to showcase our community and spotlight the amazing work Magma artists create. You can find more details about this change in our blog post; feel free to contact us with any further questions.

Bonus: As part of this initiative, we’re pleased to share that we’re working on making timelapses of Art Jams! We’ll be recording some of the Art Jams on our platform and sharing the resulting timelapses on our socials. To see the latest jams we’ve featured, follow us on X or Instagram!

Improving the Art Jam experience

As they are public sessions and separate from drawings stored in your Artdesk, Art Jams will no longer be included in your storage calculations. This means that you can host as many Art Jams as you want without them counting towards your storage limit!

We’re also working on our moderation tools to prevent issues with trolls and canvas raids. In the future, we plan to empower Art Jam owners by giving them access to some of these moderation tools – stay tuned for more details.

Making Magma faster & more reliable

We’ve improved our thumbnail generation: Thumbnails should now load more quickly for drawings in both Art Jams and your Artdesk, and should generally be more representative of the current state of the canvas.

We’ve also sped up Magma’s overall loading time, and improved the UI of the locked layer and clipping group buttons by making their current states more clear.

Calling for Beta Testers
We’re working on an exciting new feature: infinite boards! This tool will let you create an endlessly expansive space on which you can arrange multiple canvases, references, and more. If you’d like to get early access to this feature as a beta tester, sign up here!

Squashing bugs!

We approach the art of catching, squashing, and defeating bugs with utmost dedication. Some notable fixes from this month include:

  • Fixed duplicated Art Jams showing up after reconnecting

  • Fixed issues with the Art Jam genre list being cut off

  • Fixed not being able to export certain revisions from the Version History window

  • Fixed issues with the Text tool when pasting text

  • Fixed Art Jam translation issues

That’s all for now, but prepare for some more updates in the coming weeks — we have lots of exciting new features in the works!
