Welcome to another regular release with some important updates. First off, we’re excited to see you enjoying our new Art Jams feature and have seen some really awesome canvases coming out of it already.

After listening to feedback from our community, we’ve rolled out a few improvements to Art Jams this month.

Finding Magma Art Jams

We saw so many Art Jams created that it was easy for the really fun and active ones to get lost. It would take ages to go through all the pages. You’ll notice a few changes to help with this.

Featured Art Jams

We will be promoting most fun and creative sessions by assigning a “FEATURED” badge. Those jams will appear at the top of your Ongoing and Live lists.

Archiving old Art Jams

Most Art Jams are one-off, temporary hangouts. Once they become inactive, there’s no need for them to appear in the main Jam list. After 8 hours of inactivity, they’ll now become read-only. This helps protect completed Art Jams from unwanted behavior; hosts can republish an Art Jam at any time if they want to continue the session.

More information on Art Jam thumbnails

Art Jam cards and descriptions have been updated to include information. You can now see not only how many people are live, but also the number of past participants.

You can also see when a given Art Jam was created, to get a sense of how long the session has been going on.

Lastly, you can easily spot canvases that you’ve previously joined, indicated by this icon:

It’s also easier to re-join sessions, as you will be taken directly to the canvas, rather than having to open the Art Jam description window again first.

Read our Art Jams guide for all the other info you might need to know about using this feature.

Art Jam Security

  1. Hiding Canvases

Art Jam owners now have an option to hide jams from the public feed. Whenever you spot something that requires action or you get too many people joining, feel free to use this option to prevent new people from finding the canvas.

Additionally, we will be detecting canvases that receive a lot of reports and temporarily hiding them to help you make sure issues get addressed before the canvas is visible again.

  1. Reporting users

Previously it was only possible to report entire Art Jams, but after receiving feedback, we’ve also made it possible to report specific users who are not adhering to our platform rules. Please use the option responsibly, and help us make the platform safe and positive space.

General Improvements

As always, we’re busy behind the scenes improving the existing drawing tools and features while we add new ones, and fixing bugs you’ve reported:

  1. Layer visibility

It’s now possible to toggle visibility of all layers other than the one you’re currently selected. You can find the options for this in your View menu under Personal Layer Visibility.

    • This is great when trying isolate a specific layer to focus on details

    • It’s also a personal visibility setting, so changing it won’t affect other users' experience

  2. Setting Panel Modes

We’ve removed the Advanced settings mode so that you now only have Simple and Full. You’ll see all the available settings for your chosen tool with Full mode active, while Simple mode frees up space for things like your brush list and layers panel.

  3. Fixed pasting on cropped images

You might have experienced your pasted images appearing in unexpected locations on cropped canvases. We’ve fixed that!

  4. Improved brush cursor

There were some issues with the brush cursor being lost at certain zoom levels. We’ve got a fix that will switch from brush shape to crosshair more effectively as you adjust brush size and canvas zoom.

That’s all for this one. We have more updates and exciting features on the way. Until then, happy drawing.
