Clip Studio Paint is where a lot of comics, manga and webtoons get made, so sooner or later someone asks: can we work on this together? The answer is yes, with a catch. Clip Studio Paint EX has a feature called Teamwork that lets a team share one multi-page work and split up the pages. What it doesn't do is let two people draw on the same page at the same time.

This guide covers both: how to set up Teamwork in Clip Studio Paint, what it can and can't do, and how to draw on one canvas together, live, in Magma, then carry the result back into Clip Studio Paint as a PSD.

1. What Clip Studio Paint offers for teamwork

Teamwork (チーム制作 in the Japanese version) arrived in Clip Studio Paint version 1.10.10. It lets a team share a project through Clip Studio's cloud and divide the work: one person inks, another does backgrounds, another does tones, or each person takes a page of a comic (Clip Studio support).

What you need:

• Clip Studio Paint EX for every member. Teamwork works on multi-page works, and managing multiple pages in one file is an EX feature (CSP lineup). Clip Studio's own tips site labels the feature "[EX]" (CLIP STUDIO TIPS), and its tutorial says: "All members of the team must be running Clip Studio Paint EX. A user with CSP Pro can not use this function" (CLIP STUDIO TIPS).

• A Clip Studio account, signed in, and an internet connection. You can't take part in Teamwork offline (User Guide: Teamwork).

• Cloud storage, on the owner's account. The shared work only uses the owner's cloud space, not the members' (User Guide).

• Any supported device. Teamwork works on Windows, macOS, iPad, iPhone, Galaxy, Android and Chromebook. On tablets and phones you need to be in Studio Mode, not Simple Mode (Clip Studio support).

On cost: EX is $277 as a one-time purchase (version 5.0), or $8.99/month (1 device) or $76.99/year on a plan. PRO, which doesn't include Teamwork, is $63 one-time or from $4.49/month (lineup, plans; checked 25 September 2026).

2. How to set up Teamwork, step by step

Based on the official User Guide and Teamwork tips:

1. Create a team. The team leader signs in to their Clip Studio account, chooses Create Team, and names it.

2. Invite members. Choose Invite to team and send the invitation by email or as a link. Each member opens it and taps Join team.

3. Make it a multi-page work. Teamwork only works on works with multiple pages (EX).

4. Upload the work to the cloud. In Clip Studio, go to Projects, find the work on this device, and turn syncing on to upload it.

5. Turn on Teamwork. In Projects > Cloud, enable Teamwork on the work, choose the team, and confirm.

6. Split up the pages. Members open the work from their own Projects > Cloud. While someone is editing a page, their account icon appears on its thumbnail and everyone else can only open that page to view it.

7. Sync as you go. Changes sync through the cloud. Sync history is kept for 3 days, and the owner can download earlier versions.

3. The limits to know about

Teamwork is a solid way to share the work of a comic. It isn't a way to draw together. Before you plan around it:

• One person per page at a time. "You will not be able to edit the page" while another member is editing it (User Guide). Asked on Clip Studio's community Q&A whether two people can draw on the same canvas at once, a user answered: "The ability to share the same screen and work simultaneously is not available in CLIP STUDIO PAINT" (CLIP STUDIO ASK).

• Everyone needs EX. A friend on PRO, or on the free smartphone plan, can't join.

• Multi-page works only. A single illustration can't be shared through Teamwork as it is.

• Some operations lock more than one page. Moving, adding or deleting pages, and editing the story or project settings, lock the management file and sometimes every page until they finish (User Guide).

• No chat or voice. You coordinate on Discord, LINE or wherever your team talks.

For many teams the simple alternative is still to pass files around. Clip Studio Paint can save a copy as a layered PSD (File > Save duplicate > .psd) and open PSDs as layers (User Guide: Save file), so you can send files through any cloud drive.

4. Drawing together live in Magma

Sometimes you don't want to split up the pages. You want to sit at the same table: rough out a page together, paint a background as a group, run a sketch session, or have your editor draw notes on the page while you talk. That's what Magma is for.

Magma is a painting app that runs in your browser. Everyone opens the same canvas from a link and draws on it at the same time. You see every brush stroke the moment it's painted, and every canvas has voice and text chat.

• Nothing to buy for your friends. Everyone draws in the browser on the free plan, on Windows, Mac, Chromebook, iPad or Android tablets. There's also a desktop app for Windows and Mac.

• Up to 30 people on one canvas on the free plan (50 on Blaze).

• Multiboard for comics. A Multiboard is an infinite canvas with many canvases side by side, so you can lay out comic pages or a long webtoon strip and draw them together.

• Painting tools you'd expect: pen pressure and tilt, brushes that blend, up to 60 layers on the free plan with blend modes and clipping, a stabilizer, perspective grid and liquify.

To be clear about what Magma doesn't have: panel border tools, speech balloons, screentones, vector layers, 3D models and an animation timeline. Clip Studio Paint is better for all of that, and it works offline, while Magma needs an internet connection. That's why the two work well side by side. How to start a live session:

1. Go to magma.com and create a free account (Google, Discord or email).

2. Start a canvas, or a Multiboard for several pages.

3. Share the link with your team and turn on voice chat.

4. Draw together. Keep one layer per person or per job (rough, lines, flats), which makes the trip back to Clip Studio Paint much tidier.

5. The PSD round trip: Magma → Clip Studio Paint → Magma

PSD is the bridge. Here's the loop:

From Magma to Clip Studio Paint

1. In Magma, open the File menu and choose Export as > PSD. The PSD keeps layer names, opacity, blend modes and clipping. PSD export is free.

2. In Clip Studio Paint, open the PSD. It comes in as layers (CLIP STUDIO ASK).

3. Ink, tone, add balloons and finish the page as usual.

From Clip Studio Paint back to Magma

1. In Clip Studio Paint, use File > Save duplicate and pick .psd (User Guide).

2. Drop the PSD onto your Magma canvas. With Blaze, Magma asks how to import it: as one image, as new layers, or Update existing layers. That last option matches layers by name and updates them in place, so keep your layer names the same in Clip Studio Paint. On the free plan, dropping a PSD onto a canvas adds it as a single image, but you can start a new board from the PSD instead and keep all its layers.

Things that don't survive the trip

• Layer folders come into Magma flattened into separate layers.

• Clip Studio Paint features Magma doesn't have (vector layers, screentones, 3D models, balloons and editable text) need to be finished in Clip Studio Paint. Do that last.

• Check blend modes after each round trip. Both apps read PSD, but it's worth a glance before you send a page to print.

We recommend a quick test with a throwaway page before you move a real project.

6. FAQ

Can two people draw on the same canvas at the same time in Clip Studio Paint? No. Clip Studio Paint EX's Teamwork shares a multi-page work so each person edits a different page, but a page someone is editing opens read-only for everyone else. To draw on one canvas together, live, use a multiplayer app like Magma.

Do I need Clip Studio Paint EX to collaborate? For Teamwork, yes: it works on multi-page works, which are an EX feature, and every member needs EX. With PRO you can still share files, for example as PSDs through a cloud drive.

How many people can be on a Clip Studio Paint team? CELSYS's Teamwork pages don't state a maximum.

Can I use Teamwork on an iPad or a phone? Yes, on iPad, iPhone, Galaxy, Android and Chromebook as well as Windows and macOS, as long as you use Studio Mode, not Simple Mode.

Does Magma replace Clip Studio Paint for comics? No. Magma is great for drawing pages together and for sketching, painting and practicing for free, and Multiboard lays pages out side by side. Clip Studio Paint's production tools (panels, balloons, screentones, vectors, 3D) are why you'd finish there.

Is Magma free? Yes. The free Spark plan includes a 4096 px canvas, 60 layers, layered PSD export and up to 30 people on one canvas. Blaze ($9.99/month) raises the limits, lets you drop PSDs onto an existing canvas as layers, and removes ads. Starting a new board from a PSD, with its layers, is free. See pricing.

Do my friends need to install anything to draw with me in Magma? No. They open your link in a browser. A free account is needed to draw.
