We’re back with our latest release, helping you make more Magma connections and stay in touch with your drawing pals. Keep reading to see how our recent changes impact you!

Connect with artists you’ve recently drawn with

Had an amazing time drawing with a new friend but don’t have a way to contact them afterwards? We’re helping you avoid Magma missed connections by making it easier to reconnect with past drawing partners.

Now, when you click the invite button to ask others to join your canvas, you’ll see a list of the last 8 people you drew with. Select your favorite drawing buddies’ profiles to instantly send them an invitation!

Here’s how this recommendation works: Every minute, we snapshot all the users who are drawing at the same time on a canvas. We then sort users by the amount of minutes they drew at the same time as you, adding the top 8 to your “recently drawn with” list. This list will update over time as you draw in different groups and on different canvases!

Get ready for your public profile

Showing just a display name and your profile picture, your Magma profile currently leaves lots to the imagination — but that’s about to change. Soon, you’ll be able to create a public profile that showcases the full story of you as an artist, including a bio, featured artworks, and links to your portfolio or socials. This will come alongside a social feed, which will let you follow your friends and post your art directly in Magma.

Before the official launch of the public profile, you'll have the chance to reserve your unique username. Each artist must have a different username, so if you’re attached to being “PyroFan100” you’ll need to secure that name before someone else claims it! In a few weeks, you’ll get an email asking you to reserve your username, so make sure to check your inbox then.

We’re also on the lookout for artists whose profiles and artwork will be featured in the social feed inside the Magma platform. As one of the first to make a profile, you’d have the chance to get your work shown to tens of thousands of other artists! To be featured, fill out this form with info about yourself and your art.

Enjoy better Art Jam thumbnails

Art Jam thumbnails will now refresh in real time, so you’ll see what’s happening live on each canvas before you join in. Spy someone drawing your favorite character? See a cool scene coming together? This change will help you spot and join exciting jams even faster.

Fixed bugs and performance enhancements

We’re always trying to make your Magma experience as smooth as possible. Here are the recent bugs we’ve squashed and improvements we’ve added:

  • Resolved issues with empty dropdowns in the Artdesk/Artspace canvas lists

  • Fixed duplicated text in advanced brush panel tooltips

  • Enabled smoother long-press actions on touch-screen devices

  • Changed UI so the invite button will permanently remain on the canvas, even after you’ve invited someone to your drawing

  • Improved canvas rendering after viewport changes
