Hello everyone! We hope you all had a good time competing in ‘Eye of the Storm;’ We loved looking at your entries, and we hope you had as much fun working on the pieces as we had judging them!

To kick off the winter celebrations, we’re happy to launch a new type of event: flash competitions!

While Magma’s standard competitions last 2 weeks (they’re our large competitions once every one or two months with slightly bigger prize pools), flash competitions are one week long and are designed to stretch your artistic capabilities. Flash competitions typically will have different (or shall I say experimental) challenges than our standard competitions - depending on how they go down, these challenges might become one of our standard competition variants (which, so far, alternates between Art Jam Competitions and Collaborative Art Competitions).

To kick off, we are happy to announce our first Flash Competition this week. The theme is "Very Small Festivities," and the type of competition is ‘(In)finite Zoom!’

The challenge will end at 12:00pm CET on December 9th, 2025! Make sure to submit your entries before the deadline!

An introduction to (In)finite Zoom:

Magma does not necessarily have an Infinite canvas, but our Multiboard feature does enable a way for creating something very similar. To do this, you will have to layer and scale multiple boards.

To get started, you'll need to create a Multiboard from your Artdesk or Artspace. Scale your board up to 10000% and then begin your drawing.

For each zoomed area, you'll have to create a new board to layer on top of you main one. Read more about how to set up an infinite zoom multiboard in this post.

Contest Details:

  • The theme this month is "Very Small Festivities."

  • This competition is collaborative; therefore, you must create a team of 2 to 3 people to compete in this challenge.

  • The type of competition is ‘(In)finite Zoom.

    • You might have seen some videos online with infinite zooming art pieces, where the story of the piece keeps going on and on, and the level of detail doesn’t seem to end. With the introduction of the Multiboard, you can now create a similar effect on Magma!

    • For a guide on how to make an (In)finite Zoom canvas, please visit the following link here (We know the piece realistically has to end at some point… hence the name)!

  • There is no fee to enter the Contest.

  • By entering this contest, you grant Magma the right to use your submitted work in promotional materials, including emails, social media posts, and other marketing efforts. You will be credited wherever your work is featured. When we announce the winners, we want to include their work in our emails notifying our Magma users of the event.

  • By entering this contest, the entrants agree to be bound by the submission guidelines set out below.

How to win?

Our set of winners will be determined by our panel of judges: Lielurr, Dem4gog, and Nexus!

Should you compete, you will be judged according to the following criteria:

  • Collaboration (Score from 1 to 10): How cohesive was the art piece? How well did the individual artists work together?

  • Visual Clarity and Presentation (Score from 1 to 10): How visually clear and well-executed is the final piece? How well has the team mastered its craft?

  • Theme Interpretation and Originality (Score from 1 to 10): How clearly and well did it address the competition’s theme? Did it have an original take on the competition theme?

  • Technical Creativity (Score from 1 to 10): How well did the canvas use (in)finite zoom to showcase the creative vision of the team?

  • Level of Depth (Score from 1 to 10): How in-depth was the (in)finite zoom piece? How far could contestants zoom in and maintain a high level of quality?

Awards:

  • 1st Place: $100 USD in Mags per member

  • 2nd Place: $50 USD in Mags per member

  • 3rd Place: $20 USD in Mags per member

Eligibility

  1. The minimum age to participate is 13 years old. Participants aged 13 to 18 must have parent or guardian approval to enter.

  2. Entrants 18+ can directly receive prize payouts. Entrants under 18 must have an adult or guardian handle the prize payout on their behalf.

How to Enter:

  1. Create a team of 2 to 3 people that you wish to compete with.

  2. Create a multiboard canvas on Magma.com in a private canvas.

    1. For (in)finite zoom to work, the canvas needs to be a multiboard

    2. The Theme is "Very Small Festivities." Feel free to interpret this description as creatively as possible, but not too creatively that the original theme is lost.

  3.  Collaborate with your team members to turn your vision into reality. Note that your collaborative score will only be based on the collaborative efforts between your team members (therefore, if others outside of your team add to it, their contributions will be removed from the artwork).

  4.  Once complete, one team member must make a screen recording of themselves zooming into the piece. This screen recording will be what the judges use to judge the final score, though a submission of the canvas on Magma is required for the judges to verify that the piece was done on Magma.

  5. Once complete, one team member must share the final video on social media. You only need to share it on one platform.

    1. Instagram: #MagmaInfiniteZoom and tag Magma in the post (@magma_com).

    2. X: #MagmaInfiniteZoom and tag Magma in the post (@magma_com)

    3. Bluesky: #MagmaInfiniteZoom and tag Magma in the post (@magma-com.bsky.social)

  6. After all is done, submit the video and the link to your canvas via this link here.

Delivery of Prizes:

  1. Prize payouts will be made to adults (parent or guardian if winner is under 18) via Tipalti in alignment with Tipalti’s Terms of Use.

  2. Winners who fail to provide the necessary billing details will lose eligibility for the prize. Due to Know Your Customer guidelines, you will be required to submit your first name, last name, and contact email at a minimum to receive your prize.

Additional Rules:

  1. Magma reserves the right to disqualify entries suspected of violating the rules or artificially inflating engagement. Final decisions will be made at the discretion of the Magma team.

  2. The Contest is not open to companies, educational institutions, organisations, etc. or to groups associated with such institutions.

  3. Staff, Board members, and their immediate family are not eligible to enter the Contest.

  4. All submitted work must be 100% drawn on Magma without the use of third-party platforms or AI.

  5. All submitted work must be original and not based on any pre-existing artworks or copyrighted characters.

  6. All submitted work must not include 18+ or other inappropriate and/or inflammatory content. Interpretation of what falls into the above category is in the sole discretion of the contest organiser.

  7. All submitted work must not be subject to foul play (creating fake accounts to like the post, harassing other users, etc.).

If you have any questions or run into issues, feel free to contact us at support@magma.com!

Regardless of whether or not you're competing, we hope you have a great time on Magma! As always, feel free to send us your Feature Requests in Magma to let us know. If you have any questions, reach out to us on Discord or send us a message.

Have a good week, and good luck to all competitors! ❄️
