Username and Artspace Naming Policy

Username and Artspace Naming Policy

Effective date: November 12, 2024

Overview

This policy applies to usernames and Artspace names (collectively, “namespaces”) used on the Magma platform. It outlines our rules, expectations, and procedures for managing namespaces to ensure a respectful, secure, and fair community experience.

This policy is designed to protect users' rights, prevent misuse, and maintain a welcoming and professional environment for all Magma users. By creating or using a namespace on Magma, you agree to comply with the guidelines set forth below.

1. General Namespace Guidelines

  • First-Come, First-Served Basis: Magma namespaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved based solely on brand ownership or other non-platform claims.

  • Naming Limitations: Usernames and Artspace names must adhere to Magma’s community standards and should not include offensive language, hate speech, or obscene terms. We reserve the right to disallow any names that violate these standards, or for any other reason deemed necessary by Magma to protect platform integrity.

  • Unique Identifiers: Usernames and Artspace names must be unique and cannot be identical to others on the platform.

  • Username Filter: Magma employs a username filter to prevent the use of certain restricted words that violate platform standards.

  • Display Names: Magma allows non-unique display names, which are distinct from usernames but must still comply with community standards.

2. Username and Artspace Ownership and Disputes

  • No Arbitration: Magma does not arbitrate ownership disputes over usernames or Artspace names. Each user or owner is responsible for securing their account and ensuring adherence to the platform’s guidelines.

  • Claims of Prior Rights: Users may submit a claim if they believe they hold trademark or other legal rights to a specific username or Artspace name. Magma will review claims and may request documentation, reserving the right to make final decisions based on the best interests of the community, alongside other business and legal considerations.

3. Inactive Namespace Reassignment

Magma reserves the right to reassign inactive usernames or Artspace names under the following conditions:

  • Eligibility for Reassignment: Usernames or Artspace names may be eligible for reassignment if:

    • The associated account has not logged in for at least two years.

    • The namespace has no active projects or contributions.

  • Unconfirmed Accounts: Unconfirmed accounts older than 90 days may have their namespaces immediately reassigned.

  • Process: For namespaces associated with inactive accounts, Magma will make reasonable attempts to contact the account owner via email. If no response is received within two weeks, Magma may proceed with reassignment. Magma reserves the right to exclude deleted accounts or users flagged for rule violations from this process.

4. Brand Names, Trademarks, and Impersonation

Magma maintains the following policies regarding brand names, trademarks, and impersonation:

  • First-Come, First-Served Basis for Brand Names: Namespace assignments on Magma are managed on a first-come, first-served basis and do not confer any rights related to external trademarks or brand names.

  • Impersonation and Misrepresentation: Usernames and Artspace names should not impersonate or misrepresent individuals, brands, or entities without authorization. Magma may reassign namespaces found to be engaging in impersonation.

  • Dispute Resolution: Magma will not mediate disputes related to brand names or trademarks. Users involved in legal disputes over namespace rights must resolve them independently of the platform.

5. Prohibited Uses of Usernames and Artspace Names

The following uses are prohibited:

  • Offensive or Harmful Language: Names that include obscene, hateful, discriminatory, or violent language are not permitted.

  • Abusive or Harassing Names: Namespaces intended to harass, troll, or intimidate others are strictly prohibited and subject to immediate reassignment.

  • Spam or Squatting: Namespaces created solely to reserve or “squat” on names for resale, spam, or promotional activities unrelated to legitimate platform use are prohibited.

6. Namespace Change Policy

Magma provides users limited flexibility to change their usernames or Artspace names:

  • Change Limitations: Users may be restricted in the frequency of username changes to avoid confusion and maintain a stable user experience. Frequent changes may require payment, as determined by Magma, to help maintain platform stability.

  • Review of Change Requests: Magma reserves the right to review and approve username change requests on a case-by-case basis, considering platform integrity and community standards.

7. Policy Flexibility and Updates

This policy may be updated periodically to reflect changes in community standards, platform operations, or legal requirements. Magma reserves the right to modify or make exceptions to this policy at any time, with or without prior notice.

By using Magma’s services, you agree to abide by this policy. Continued use of Magma following any updates to this policy constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
